I have had it at the back of my
mind to do this post for almost 2 years now. I really do not know why I have
not posted about this place all this while but I think today is the day. Let’s
call it #ThrowbackThursday!!
I was born in August…
That makes me fabulous by default. It was a day to my birthday and I met my
friend Mona and my sister at Ci Gusta (Another one of my most favourite places
in Accra). My sister and I wanted some real food… we were not in the mood for a sandwich
or waffles or anything like that. We saw the Maestro sign upstairs and thought…
Let’s try it out.
So Mona my sister and I stepped
into Maestro
There is a lovely bar downstairs,
quite simple yet classy. The décor is very elegant. Great lighting... that
perfect combination of not too dim but not too bright. We went up the stairs
and there was a battalion of staff literally smothering us. Someone pulling a
seat… another bringing the menu one doing something I am not really
sure what he was doing but he was doing something.
We received the warmest welcome I
have ever had in any restaurant in this country. The restaurant was new back
then so they introduced themselves and the kind of cuisine they serve (French).
From the look of the place and
the attention we were getting it was obvious that it was definitely a FINE
DINING sort of place. The thing is, we didn’t exactly prepare for that sort of place…
We were low on cash and the really nice staff was hovering over us so much that
we just could not leave also we really wanted to try the food, Maame was the first to order even though we didn’t have money.
She went for the cheaper dish on the menu. I did not restrain myself I had what
I felt like having and prayed that my brother would get there in time before
they have us washing dishes to make up for the bill.
By the time we were done eating
our amazing food, he was still stuck in traffic so we had some more sparkling
water, pretended to be having some very serious and aristocratic conversation
all the while praying he got there soon.
Long story short, the next time I
was there I was sure to carry my visa card. Food was amazing both times and I
declare that the food they serve there must be enjoyed by everyone at least
twice a year. I also think that I deserve to marry the Chef so he cooks for me
every day. Come to think of it, I never got his/her name. The staff was even more amazing, very helpful
professional and nice. When I said it was my birthday, they gave free deserts. Who doesn’t like free desert?
You have not eaten at Maestro
if you haven’t had their mash potatoes. It is the perfect accompaniment
with any main meal There is a slight hit of nutmeg in there. It is a very comforting accompaniment. . The FORESTIÈRE… whoww… the meat just melts in your mouth. You HAVE TO taste the duck breast it is
just perfect. I like my meat well done, I got exactly that at the same time it
was moist, tender, and those pieces of grilled apples was a pleasant surprise
on the side.

There was so much hand holding. The only thing
left was for them to actually feed us.

I do not know if I am being biased but I just
liked it. There is something about the place that makes you want to sit up
with your head high speak French and talk about something aristocratic
